Spiritual direction is the centuries-old tradition of one Christian listening with another Christian for the direction of the Holy Spirit. Spiritual Direction deals with questions and issue such as, “How can I know God better and grow closer to God? How can I experience God's presence in my daily life? How can I better ‘hear’ what God is saying to me? How can I grow in my prayer life and become more consistent? I feel blocked or stuck. How can I start moving forward with God? How can I become more Christ-like in my thoughts, attitudes, and actions? How can I discover what God wants me to do with my life? I need God’s guidance for a challenge in my life, or a particular decision I am facing.”
Judy Turner is a trained and experienced Spiritual Director. With over 30 years of experience in pastoral ministry, she has listened and prayed with numerous people with a great variety of spiritual needs. She is currently completing the Spiritual Director Formation Program of the St. Scholastica Monastery in Ft. Smith, AR. Judy listens with individuals for God's invitation to grow spiritually. She suggests ways of praying and spiritual practices which lead to a deeper relationship with God, and prays with people in overcoming obstacles to loving and serving God. Judy offers spiritual direction ministry during 60 minute sessions. The sessions can be scheduled on a weekly or monthly basis, or during a spiritual retreat. The suggested donation for Spiritual Direction is $40.00 an hour. (We understand that some people will not be able to make the suggested donation, and others will be able to give more.)
Judy can also lead you through a powerful process for growth in Christ called the "Spiritual Exercises in Daily Life".
What some people say about their experience of Spiritual Direction with Judy:
Lisa Maly, who came for a 48 hour retreat, met with Judy each day during her retreat for Spiritual Direction. This is what she wrote at the conclusion of her retreat: “Judy, thank you so much for giving your life to God’s work and helping others find a way to be closer with Him! I will always cherish and remember fondly my time spent with you, with God, and here in this place. My cup of life is definitely fill with gratitude, peace, and fulfillment, and taking God with me in my tasks is a joy I am looking forward to doing! God bless!”
Twyla Francis came for a weekend retreat and met with Judy several times for Spiritual Direction. Twyla wrote:
"Your place was the ideal setting for me to stop and listen to my Heavenly Father. Getting away from the noise and chaos allowed me to hear His voice and let His love fill my heart. My time with Him at Christview Ministries was priceless and has improved my perspective. Thank you for the relaxation, quiet direction, and loving counsel. Your ministry is truly one of a kind and God breathed."
DeLee Holbert wrote "Judy Turner has been providing spiritual direction to me for nearly two years. In that role, she has done such things as provide a course of study for me, helped me identify, understand, and develop my spiritual gifts, connected me with others on the same journey as myself, and has provided guidance and counsel as I seek God's direction in my life. She has encouraged me and helped bolster my confidence as I move along the path that God is revealing to me. Her walking with me has been invaluable to my spiritual walk."
SPIRITUAL EXERCISES IN DAILY LIFE
St. Ignatius of Loyola in his Spiritual Exercises designed a thirty day retreat to help people grow toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. For over 450 years the Spiritual Exercises have served as a model for spiritual growth. Not everyone can make a 30 day retreat, and the good news is that these Spiritual Exercises can be experienced in everyday life, over approximately 30 weeks. The Exercises help a Christian experience God’s tremendous love and grace, and God’s presence in all things. The Exercises lead to deeper identification with the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and greater desire to be His devoted follower and friend.
Through the centuries, many Christians who have gone through the Spiritual Exercises have had a life-transforming encounter with Christ.
Working through the Spiritual Exercises in Daily Life involves spending an hour in prayer with scripture each day, and meeting weekly with a spiritual director. The spiritual director is a mature Christian who has worked through the exercises himself or herself. The director listens to what the directee is experiencing and helps the directee discern how God is at work. The weekly meetings offer encouragement to faithfulness in prayer. The retreat in daily life usually extends from September until May. Judy Turner has made the thirty day retreat, and has also served as a spiritual director for those doing the Spiritual Exercises in Daily Life.
Cynthia Bowers, who lives in Harrison, Arkansas worked through the Spiritual Exercises in Daily Life. Cynthia writes about her experience:
" When I started the journey of the Spiritual Exercises I had no idea how it would change me forever. I knew that the time would be a commitment, a discipline and an adventure, but what I didn't expect was a deeper intimacy with Christ than I had ever had since the day I accepted Him as my personal Savior at age 16.
Judy was my spiritual director for this journey and served faithfully throughout the time, encouraging me, praying for me, counseling me and helping me see where the Lord was speaking into my life. How amazing that His invitation to make this journey came at a time when I felt too busy and overburdened in my life. Yet, He used this time to strengthen my faith, show me His abounding love and grace and give me a new devotion to a steady and consistent following with Him."
