Mentoring

Mentoring is intentional, individualized teaching, guiding, encouraging, and coaching.  John and Judy Turner, experienced pastors, meet with people we are mentoring either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly for 60 to 120 minute sessions, usually at the Christview Ministries Center.  Talk with John and Judy about your desire to grow spiritually and how you think God may be calling you to serve. If you are trying to discover what God wants you to do, mentoring can help. John and Judy will put together a plan to work on together, based on your needs and goals, which may include Bible study, spiritual direction, inner healing prayer ministry, life coaching, and ministry skills development.  The suggested donation for mentoring is $40.00 per hour (we understand that some people will not be able to make this donation, and some will be able to give more.)

John and Judy have worked with a number of people who are serving Christ in varied and effective ways in the course of their everyday lives. Carolyn is leading Bible studies for women in her home and even writing Bible studies. Her husband, Bay, takes donated cars and fixes them, then gives them to single moms, students, and others who cannot afford a car. Vehicles 4 Victory provides the  transportation to get to work or do what is needed to better their lives. Rick is an organic farmer and Karen is a nutritionist. They have recently started a ministry that combines teaching Christian discipleship along with organic farming and cooking nutritious food. Vickie had a God-dream to become a certified drug and alcohol counselor and start a Recovery House for women. Through mentoring at Christview and other training, Vickie has become a drug and alcohol counselor, and is now the founder and director of the Jeremiah House, where women are finding help in recovering from addiction.

People John and Judy mentor talk about what mentoring has meant to them:

“My first contact with Christview Ministries was as a partner in helping them find a location for Christview. It was an honor to be part of that plan and to meet 2 people, John and Judy Turner, who would become such an important part of our walk with Christ as teachers, spiritual mentors, prayer partners, and most of all as " God- sent friends." Christview Ministries played an important role in helping us live out the vision God put in our hearts for ministry; they were a constant source of support and information. They have encouraged and supported JR with his gift of song, taught us the Word, showed us the importance of rest. They have prayed for and with us on a continual basis, which has helped us more than I can express in words, and encouraged me in my gifts and to accept the fact that I do indeed have "gifts". They have been played a huge role in the development and success of Soul Purpose Minisitries and the Jeremiah House, a recovery house for women.”      Vickie Poulson

“We spent the summer in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, learning about organic gardening. That was where we connected with Christview Ministries. We have never before experienced such prayer and support!  From the first day we met John and Judy, they listened to our hearts and helped us grow spiritually. They also help us in practical ways to pursue our dream.  They help us see options and take steps to move forward. When things looked bleak, they were God’s messengers to tell us not to give up!”   Rick and Karen Duggan

“I feel so blessed to be in partnership with Christview Ministries! The quality of the events provided shows the leading of the Lord--for He does everything well! John and Judy have been caring prayer partners, mentors and teachers. With their encouragment, I teach Bible studies in our home, I am gaining insight to author a second Bible study, and I mentor individual women. I know the Lord has richly blessed John and Judy with wisdom and I am blessed to be connected with their ministry!”      Carolyn Biossat

The questions John and Judy use to guide their ministry will give you an idea of how they approach mentoring:

Teaching

  • What knowledge does this person need to have in order to serve Christ more effectively?
  • What is the person’s learning style?
  • What can I affirm in what the person already knows?
  • What additional perspectives and insight can we add to what the person already knows?

Guiding

  • How is God at work in this person’s life?
  • What is God inviting this person toward?
  • How can he/she make a faithful response and take the next step?

Encouraging

  • How do I need to pray for this person?
  • What feedback would be helpful to this person?
  • How can I best support this person, while giving him/her space to respond to God’s leading and develop his/her own way of serving?

Coaching

  • What is the one issue the person wants to work on during this session?  What is his/her goal?
  • What skills and resources do I as coach have to offer?
  • How can I help him/her avoid some pitfalls yet also help him/her learn from mistakes?
  • What have I learned in my life in ministry that is relevant to the challenges this person is facing?  How can I share from my experience yet leave him/her free to develop as God leads?
  • What does God want to bring forth in this person’s life, and how does God want to use me as a coach in this process?

What are your God-dreams? What are you passionate about doing with God? What difference are you longing to make? Mentoring can help turn dreams into reality!
